The SAIFR-Perimeter Fellowship awardees will be enrolled in a joint two year Masters program between the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics in Waterloo, Canada and the ICTP-SAIFR/IFT-UNESP in São Paulo, Brazil. The fellowships will be awarded in 2022 for the 2023/2024 program, and preference will be given to students in their last year of undergraduate studies.
The first six months of this program (February 2023 – July 2023) are spent at the IFT-SAIFR in São Paulo. This period will include preparatory courses which will provide an excellent preparation for the second part of the program.
The next ten months of the program (August 2023 – June 2024) take place at the Perimeter Institute in Waterloo. The student will be part of the Perimeter Scholars International (PSI) program during this period. More information about PSI here. Students at PSI earn a Master of Science from the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada.
The last six months would be again at the IFT-SAIFR (July 2024 – December 2024) and are optional. During these six months, the student is encouraged to develop further the short essay project initiated at the PSI program and bring it to a more mature research project, hopefully leading to publications. During this last period of the fellowship, the students can also enroll in more advanced exploratory courses.
All costs will be be covered jointly by SAIFR and Perimeter.
The selection for these fellowships is mainly through the exam results at the Journeys into Theoretical Physics school (see School Format for more details), but other factors such as diversity will be considered. The top scorers on the exam will be interviewed by skype and asked to submit a short motivation letter, their school transcripts and the contacts of two referees.
